Our new “Employee Spotlight” series will focus on some of the amazing team members that work in front of and behind the scenes to create our security alarm signs and stickers.
If you’ve had any interaction with our company over the last 20 years via phone or email, you’ve likely had the pleasure of working with our incredible account manager and customer service representative, Christy Mallan. Christy assists customers every step of the way to create their custom security / alarm company signs and stickers. All she needs is a logo and an idea of what her client is looking for and she will ensure that they receive a product that exceeds their expectations while providing a matching customer service experience.
Christy is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to Security Signs & Decals, and for good reason. She literally grew up in and around the business. Christy’s parents, Steve & Cathy Cart, founded the company back in 1987 and successfully ran it for over 30 years before retiring in early 2021.
So without further ado, here’s our interview with customer service extraordinaire, Christy Mallan.
How long have you worked at Security Signs & Decals?
I actually started about 25 years ago working part-time over the summer while in high school. I started in the shipping department and after graduating high school, I began working full time and eventually worked my way up to sales / customer service.
What do you like most about your job?
Working with our clients and getting to know them. Most of them are mom and pop security companies. When they place their first order for yard signs or security decals, they are often unsure about how they will look once their logo is printed on them. They realize that these signs and stickers are basically the face of their company. I love holding their hands through the process to create exactly what they are envisioning - or better. Getting that call once they’ve received their order to say that they are blown away by the quality really makes my day.
Also, when I’m out and about with my kids and see one of the signs or decals we’ve created out in the field, it makes me very happy. I’m so proud of the work we produce!
What motivates you?
It gives me pride to watch the company my parents worked so hard to get off the ground continue to blossom and grow. Even though they have retired, they love to hear my weekly updates on what’s going on and how we are consistently getting reorders from past customers. I also feel that the products we produce help our clients to grow their own businesses. The fact that we produce our products in the USA for other American companies is very motivating as well.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
After high school, I went to night school for a while and got my Cosmetology license. After graduating, I realized that hair and makeup was more of a hobby and fully committed to Security Signs & Decals.
If you could have any superpower what would it be?
The power to heal. I love helping people.
